Is one of the side plates removable, so that I can slide the rolled wire off the spool?

Hi Julie! The side plates on the E-Z Reel are not designed to be removed to slide a roll of wire off the spool. The wire is intended to stay on the spool for storage and dispensing.

Power Wizard does offer a separate A-8 empty spool for the E-Z Reel, so you can keep different fence wires, ropes, or tapes on their own spools and swap them as needed.
