The Parmak Magnum Solar-Pak 12 Electric Fence Charger, model MAG12SP, is a powerful 12-volt solar-powered electric fence energizer built for medium to large pastures, remote livestock fencing, high-tensile fence systems, rotational grazing, and predator control.
Rated for up to 30 miles of electric fence and producing up to 3.1+ joules, the Magnum Solar-Pak 12 combines the output of Parmak’s Magnum 12 battery charger with the convenience of an integrated solar charging system. During the day, the solar panel recharges the internal battery. At night, the included sealed 12-volt rechargeable battery continues powering the fence.
For farmers, ranchers, livestock owners, and property owners who need electric fencing far from utility power, the Magnum Solar-Pak 12 provides a true off-grid solution without the routine battery charging required by a conventional battery-powered fence charger.
3.1+ Joule Solar Fence Charger
The Parmak Magnum Solar-Pak 12 delivers up to 3.1+ joules of output and is rated for as much as 30 miles of electric fence. It uses low-impedance circuitry designed to maintain effective fence power while dealing with common pasture conditions such as weeds and brush contacting the fence line.
That makes it much more than a lightweight solar fence charger for a small garden or temporary enclosure.
The MAG12SP is designed for serious agricultural applications where you need:
- Strong livestock containment
- Remote pasture fencing
- Multi-wire electric fence systems
- High-tensile electric fencing
- Rotational grazing
- Wildlife exclusion
- Predator control
- Reliable electric fence power without 110V AC service
Solar Power Without Routine Battery Recharging
One of the biggest advantages of the Magnum Solar-Pak 12 is that the solar panel continuously helps maintain the included rechargeable battery.
Parmak designed the system so the solar panel charges the battery during daylight hours while the sealed 12V battery powers the fence around the clock. This eliminates the normal cycle of removing and manually recharging a battery that comes with many traditional battery-powered fence energizers.
For remote pastures and fence lines far from buildings, that can save a substantial amount of time.
There is no extension cord to run, no nearby electrical outlet required, and no routine trip back to the barn just to recharge the fence charger battery.
Includes the 12-Volt Rechargeable Battery
Unlike the standard Parmak Magnum 12 battery model, the Magnum Solar-Pak 12 includes its sealed rechargeable 12V battery as part of the complete solar fence charger system.
That gives you an integrated setup consisting of:
- Solar panel
- 12V rechargeable battery
- Low-impedance fence energizer
- Fence performance meter
- Weatherproof outdoor enclosure
The included battery is designed to store solar energy so the electric fence remains powered overnight and during periods without direct sunlight.
Built-In Fence Performance Meter
The Magnum Solar-Pak 12 includes Parmak’s built-in analog fence performance meter.
Instead of simply telling you whether the fence charger is turned on, the meter gives you a visual indication of actual fence condition.
That can help you quickly identify when something has changed with your electric fencing system.
A drop in fence performance may indicate:
- Heavy weeds touching the fence
- Brush or tree limbs against the wire
- Poor grounding
- Broken or damaged insulators
- Loose fence connections
- Shorts in the fence
- Excessive fence load
For a remote electric fence, being able to check system condition directly at the charger is especially useful.
Shocks Through Weeds and Brush
Vegetation is one of the most common causes of reduced electric fence voltage.
When grass, weeds, vines, or brush contact energized wire, some of the electrical energy can leak toward the ground. Enough vegetation can significantly reduce the effectiveness of a smaller fence charger.
The Parmak Magnum Solar-Pak 12 uses low-impedance circuitry specifically designed to shock through weeds and brush, making it well suited for real pasture conditions where vegetation cannot always be kept perfectly clear.
Regular fence maintenance is still important, but the MAG12SP gives you considerably more capacity than a small solar energizer when the fence becomes loaded.
Designed for Cattle, Horses, Sheep, Goats and More
Parmak recommends the Magnum Solar-Pak 12 for a wide range of livestock and wildlife applications, including:
- Cattle fencing
- Horse fencing
- Sheep fencing
- Goat fencing
- Pig and hog fencing
- Dog fencing
- Deer fencing
- Bear fencing
- Predator control
Parmak specifically identifies the Magnum 12 solar model as a good choice for medium to large pastures and larger animals, including cattle, horses, hogs, sheep, and deer.
Ideal for Remote Pastures
The biggest reason to choose a solar electric fence charger is location freedom.
The Magnum Solar-Pak 12 does not require nearby utility power, making it ideal for:
- Remote cattle pastures
- Leased grazing land
- Rotational grazing paddocks
- Large farms
- Wildlife exclusion fences
- Temporary grazing areas
- Bee yards
- Remote property boundaries
- Areas where trenching or running electrical service is impractical
The combination of solar charging and a rechargeable battery gives you the placement flexibility of a battery fence charger without requiring regular trips to recharge the battery manually.
Weatherproof Outdoor Construction
The Parmak Magnum Solar-Pak 12 is designed for outdoor installation.
Its weatherproof enclosure allows the energizer, battery, and solar panel to remain together in the field where the fence needs power. Parmak lists the MAG12SP specifically as an outdoor model.
Parmak also offers a dedicated T-post mounting bracket for the Magnum Solar-Pak 12, allowing the charger to be mounted directly to a standard studded steel T-post.
That makes the entire system well suited for portable or semi-permanent pasture fencing.
Strong Voltage Under Load
The Parmak Magnum Solar-Pak 12 is rated at:
| Specification | Parmak MAG12SP |
|---|---|
| Open Circuit Voltage | 11,000 volts |
| Voltage at 500 Ohms | 6,100 volts |
| Voltage at 100 Ohms | 3,100 volts |
| Maximum Output | 3.1+ Joules |
| Low Output | 1.1 Joules |
These published figures show that the MAG12SP is designed to maintain useful voltage even when the electric fence is under load, rather than simply producing a high no-load voltage number.

How Much Fence Will the Magnum Solar-Pak 12 Power?
Parmak rates the Magnum Solar-Pak 12 for up to 30 miles of electric fence.
As with any fence charger, that number should be viewed as a maximum capacity rating rather than a guarantee that every 30-mile system will perform the same.
Actual fence performance depends on:
- Total energized wire length
- Number of hot wires
- Vegetation load
- Fence construction
- Grounding quality
- Soil moisture
- Wire conductivity
- Condition of insulators
- Splices and connections
- Animal type
A five-mile fence with six energized wires represents a much greater electrical load than five miles of single-wire fence.
That is why joule output, loaded voltage, grounding, vegetation, and total conductor length all matter when choosing an electric fence energizer.
Is the Magnum Solar-Pak 12 Good for Cattle?
Yes. Parmak specifically lists cattle as a recommended application for the Magnum Solar-Pak 12.
Its 3.1+ joule output, 30-mile rating, low-impedance design, and solar power system make it particularly useful for remote cattle pastures and rotational grazing where AC electricity is unavailable.
Can You Use the Magnum Solar-Pak 12 for Horses?
Yes. Parmak recommends the MAG12SP for horse electric fencing.
The solar design makes it especially convenient for horse pastures located away from barns and utility power, provided the fence is appropriately designed and grounded.
Is It Good for Sheep and Goats?
Yes. Parmak lists sheep and goats among the recommended applications for the Magnum Solar-Pak 12.
Because animals with heavy coats can require reliable fence voltage, the Magnum Solar-Pak 12's higher output and performance meter are useful advantages over smaller solar fence chargers.
Can It Be Used for Deer, Bears, and Predator Control?
Yes. Parmak specifically lists deer, bears, and predator control among the MAG12SP's recommended applications.
This is one of the areas where solar power is particularly valuable. Wildlife and predator fencing is often located around remote fields, livestock areas, orchards, gardens, or bee yards where electrical service may not be available.
Magnum Solar-Pak 12 vs. Magnum 12
The Parmak Magnum Solar-Pak 12 and standard Magnum 12 are closely related fence chargers.
Both are rated for:
- Up to 30 miles of fence
- 3.1+ joules maximum output
- 6,100 volts at a 500-ohm load
- 3,100 volts at a 100-ohm load
- Medium to large pastures
- Livestock and predator control
The major difference is the power system.
The Magnum 12 runs from an external 12V battery that must eventually be recharged manually.
The Magnum Solar-Pak 12 includes its own rechargeable battery and solar panel, allowing sunlight to maintain the battery automatically.
If you want the lowest initial cost and already have a suitable 12V battery, the Magnum 12 may make sense.
If the fence will remain in a remote location and you want a more self-contained off-grid system, the Magnum Solar-Pak 12 offers significantly more convenience.
