The Parmak Super Energizer 5 Electric Fence Charger, model SE-5, is a powerful 110-120V AC low-impedance fence energizer designed for large pastures, high-tensile fencing, livestock containment, controlled grazing, and predator control.
With 6.3+ joules of output, a rating of over 50 miles of electric fence, and more than 8,000 volts under a 500-ohm load, the Super Energizer 5 is built for demanding farm and ranch fencing applications where a smaller electric fence charger may not provide enough power.
The SE-5 is especially well suited for single-wire and multi-wire high-tensile electric fences, larger livestock pastures, and fence lines exposed to weeds, brush, and other vegetation. Parmak specifically designed the Super Energizer 5 to maintain effective fence power through wet weeds and brush while providing the voltage needed for both livestock and predator fencing.
6.3+ Joule Electric Fence Charger for Large Pastures
The Parmak SE-5 Super Energizer 5 delivers up to 6.3+ joules and is rated to charge more than 50 miles of electric fence. That makes it one of Parmak's more powerful AC fence chargers and a strong choice for farms that need to energize long perimeter fences, multiple paddocks, or high-tensile fencing systems.
Low-impedance fence chargers are designed to send short, powerful electrical pulses through the fence while reducing the effect that moderate vegetation can have on the system. For real-world farm fencing, that matters because grass, weeds, wet brush, fence length, soil conditions, and the number of energized wires can all place additional load on an electric fence.
The Super Energizer 5 is built for those demanding conditions.
Built for High-Tensile Electric Fence
If you're running high-tensile electric fencing, the Parmak Super Energizer 5 is designed specifically for the job.
Parmak recommends the SE-5 for both single-wire and multi-wire high-tensile fences, making it a strong option for permanent farm fencing, cattle pasture fencing, controlled grazing systems, and large perimeter fences.
A high-tensile fence can cover a significant amount of ground, and every additional wire increases the total amount of energized conductor the fence charger must power. The SE-5's higher output gives large fencing systems substantially more capacity than smaller pasture energizers.
Digital Fence Voltage Meter
One of the most useful features of the Super Energizer 5 is its built-in digital performance meter.
Instead of simply telling you that the electric fence charger is turned on, the digital display shows the actual voltage present on the fence. Parmak's installation literature explains that the display reads fence voltage in kilovolts, so a reading of 8.0 represents approximately 8,000 volts.
That gives you a quick way to monitor the condition of your electric fencing system.
If the displayed voltage begins dropping, it can indicate increased fence load caused by problems such as:
- Grass or weeds touching the fence
- Tree limbs or brush contacting the wire
- Broken or damaged insulators
- Poor electrical connections
- Grounding problems
- Additional fence wire being added to the system
Being able to see fence voltage directly at the charger can make troubleshooting a large electric fence much easier.
Powerful Fence Voltage Under Load
A fence charger's open-circuit voltage only tells part of the story. A powerful energizer also needs to maintain voltage when the fence is under load.
The Parmak Super Energizer 5 is rated at:
| Fence Condition | Voltage |
|---|---|
| Open Circuit | 14,500 volts |
| 500-ohm Load | 8,750 volts |
| 100-ohm Load | 6,300 volts |
| 50-ohm Load | 4,300 volts |
Those figures help demonstrate why the SE-5 is intended for larger and more demanding electric fence systems rather than lightweight backyard fencing.
Shocks Through Wet Weeds and Brush
Vegetation is one of the most common reasons an electric fence loses voltage.
As grass, weeds, and brush come into contact with an energized fence wire, electrical energy can leak into the ground. The heavier the vegetation load becomes, the harder the fence charger has to work to maintain adequate voltage.
The Parmak Super Energizer 5 uses low-impedance circuitry and is specifically designed to continue delivering effective fence power through wet weeds and brush. Parmak classifies the SE-5 among its top AC models for fences exposed to medium-to-heavy vegetation.
Regular vegetation control is still recommended, but the SE-5 provides considerably more reserve power than a small electric fence energizer when conditions become less than ideal.
Electric Fence Charger for Cattle, Horses, Sheep, Goats and More
The Super Energizer 5 is designed for a broad range of livestock fencing and animal-control applications.
Parmak recommends the SE-5 for:
- Cattle fencing
- Horse fencing
- Sheep fencing
- Goat fencing
- Pig and hog fencing
- Dog fencing
- Deer fencing
- Bear fencing
- Raccoon control
- Predator fencing
Parmak specifically identifies the SE-5 as one of its preferred models for sheep, deer, and predator fencing, applications that often benefit from higher fence voltage and a more powerful energizer.
Great Choice for Controlled Grazing
The Parmak SE-5 is also designed for controlled grazing and rotational grazing systems.
When a farm uses multiple paddocks or divides a large pasture into smaller grazing areas, the electric fence charger may be energizing a substantial amount of wire even though the physical acreage isn't enormous.
The 50+ mile fence rating and 6.3+ joule output give the Super Energizer 5 the capacity needed for larger grazing systems and multi-wire fence installations.
110-120 Volt AC Plug-In Fence Charger
The Super Energizer 5 operates from 110-120V AC power, making it a plug-in electric fence charger for permanent fencing installations where standard electrical power is available.
Unlike a solar fence charger or battery-powered fence energizer, there is no fence charger battery to recharge or solar panel output to monitor.
Because the SE-5 is an AC model, Parmak specifies that it must be installed indoors in a clean, dry location protected from rain, snow, high humidity, and condensation.
That makes it ideal for installation inside a:
- Barn
- Equipment building
- Workshop
- Utility building
- Other protected structure near the electric fence
Built-In Lightning Protection
Electric fencing can be vulnerable to lightning because long runs of fence wire can conduct electrical surges toward the energizer.
The Parmak Super Energizer 5 includes fuse protection and built-in lightning arresters to help protect the fence charger. Parmak also backs the SE-5 with a 3-year warranty that includes lightning damage under the manufacturer's warranty terms.
Color-Coded Fence and Ground Terminals
The SE-5 uses color-coded terminals to simplify installation:
- Red terminal: connects to the electric fence
- Black terminal: connects to the grounding system
A properly installed grounding system is critical to electric fence performance. The fence charger, fence wire, animal, soil, and ground rods all work together to complete the electrical circuit.
A high-output electric fence charger cannot compensate for a poorly designed grounding system, so correct grounding is especially important when installing a powerful energizer like the Super Energizer 5.

How Much Fence Will the Parmak SE-5 Power?
Parmak rates the Super Energizer 5 for more than 50 miles of electric fence.
Keep in mind that a manufacturer's fence-mile rating represents potential fence capacity, not a guarantee that every 50-mile installation will perform exactly the same.
Actual electric fence performance depends on factors including:
- Total length of energized wire
- Number of hot wires
- High-tensile versus conventional wire
- Vegetation touching the fence
- Soil moisture
- Grounding system quality
- Fence connections and splices
- Condition of insulators
- Animal type
- Overall fence layout
For example, a 10-mile perimeter fence using five energized wires represents far more energized wire than a 10-mile single-wire fence.
That is why selecting an electric fence charger based only on advertised mileage can be misleading.
Why Fence Voltage Matters
The goal of an electric fence energizer is to deliver enough voltage and current for an animal to receive an effective shock when it contacts the fence.
Parmak notes that stored joules alone are not a reliable measure of fence performance, because some of the energy stored inside an energizer is lost before it reaches the fence wire. Parmak instead emphasizes actual fence voltage and current under real-world loads.
That makes the SE-5's digital voltage meter particularly useful because you can see the condition of the actual fence rather than relying solely on a specification printed on the box.
Is the Parmak Super Energizer 5 Good for Cattle?
Yes. The SE-5 is designed for large livestock pastures and controlled grazing, and Parmak lists cattle among its recommended applications.
Its high output also makes it well suited for multi-wire cattle fencing and larger rotational grazing systems.
Is the Super Energizer 5 Good for Sheep and Goats?
Yes. In fact, this is one area where the SE-5 separates itself from smaller Parmak electric fence chargers.
Parmak specifically recommends the Super Energizer 5 for sheep and goat fencing, and identifies it as one of its better choices for sheep fences due to its higher output and ability to handle heavier vegetation loads.
Can the Parmak SE-5 Be Used for Deer and Predator Fencing?
Yes. Parmak recommends the Super Energizer 5 for deer fencing and predator control, including applications involving animals such as bears and other predators.
Predator and wildlife fences often use multiple energized wires and may require higher operating voltage, making a larger low-impedance fence charger particularly useful.
Is the Parmak Super Energizer 5 Right for Your Fence?
The Super Energizer 5 is best suited for larger and more demanding electric fence systems.
It makes sense when you need:
- More power for a large pasture
- A charger for high-tensile fencing
- Multiple strands of energized wire
- Sheep or goat fencing
- Deer or predator control
- Better performance through weeds and brush
- A built-in digital fence voltage meter
- An AC-powered energizer for a permanent electric fence
For a small horse paddock or short cattle fence, a smaller Parmak fence charger may provide all the power you need.
For large livestock pastures, long fence lines, high-tensile electric fencing, heavy vegetation, or predator fencing, the Parmak SE-5 Super Energizer 5 provides considerably more electric fence capacity.
